January: Strings is closed the month of January.; Have a Happy New Year!

February 2nd: Snake Trio; We are very happy to welcome back this exciting group. Orgininal music based on the traditions of Jazz and South American folk music performed with consumate musicianship.
February 9th: Alexander Tsygankov & Inna Shevchenko; We are thrilled to welcome back these two, virtuoso musicians on tour from Moskow. Tsygankov on dorma and Shevchenko on piano perform classics and originals.
February 16th: Marc Silber & Friends; Delta Blues and more performed by one of the very best. An evening that is bound to hold some surprises and is sure to delight all who attend.
February 23rd: Alexis Hart Band (Alexis Hart, Randy Weaver, Aaron Brinkerhoff, & Adrian West); Music at the cutting edge of contemporary folk rock. Terrific musicianship combined with truly exciting arrangements make this music special.

March 2nd: Quijerema
Quique Cruz (Chile) charango/ronroco, kenacho (Andean flute)

Maria Fernanda Acuna (Venezuela) percussion, cuatro; The astounding alchemy of these ground-breaking musicians creates world music which fuses Jazz, South American traditions and originality.
March 9th: Tom Rigney, Caroline Dahl, & Joe Weed; Stellar Cajun fiddler, Rigney, performs with dynamite boogie-woogie pianist, Dahl, and fiddler, Joe Weed. High energy, heart-felt music. One of our favorite evenings.
March 16th: Casablanca (Yassir, Bouchaib-Adelhadi, & Gael Alcott); A synergistic blend of near-East and far-West tonalities. Traditional "Gnawa" and "Shaabi" from Casablanca accompanied by traditional instruments and cello.
March 23rd: Kings of Mongrel Folk (Mark Graham & Orville Johnson); This extraordinary duo performs with humor, wit and musicianship that truly amaze. They are the Kings of Mongrel Folk.
March 30th: Palenque (German Donatien, Chus Alonso, Norm Downing, Steve Parkin, & Markus Puhvel); This quinteto performs traditional style Cuban "son." Beautiful lyrics, enticing melodies and irresistable Afro-Cuban rhythms.

April 6: The Palm Wine Boys (Richard Linley, Q.B. Williams, Tom Chandler); We are happy to welcome back one of our favorite groups. Contemporary folk with Afro-Carribean influence. Upbeat music that is sure to put you in a good mood.
April 13: Visual Concert (Hosted by John Pearson); Master photographer John Pearson hosts this evening of photography to the accompaniment of live music. A multi-media event linking visual and musical talents to create mind-altering tapestries.
April 20: Player's Night (Mark Holzinger, Teja Gerken, Michael Klapholz, and Alan Smithline); An evening of several styles of acoustic guitar music. Luthiers will be displaying their hand-made acoustic guitars at this meeting of the Church of Acoustic Guitar.
April 27: Acoustic Soul (Emil Borgir, Mary Fairfield, Arsinoe Bacogiannis, Michael Lewis, and Guss Kambeitz); We welcome back Acoustic Soul. Fabulous vocal harmonies. Originals rooted in Blues with a positive spin.

May 4: Shawn Mullins / The Devil Makes Three (Pete Bernhard, Lucia Turino, Cooper Bean); Contemporarary Americana at its very best. Come early to attend this evening. Doors will close to all except members after the first 40 arrivals.
May 11: Samba Ngo (Samba Ngo, Mbor Faye, Dennis Smith, Zack Pitt-Smith); Congolese Soukous. Samba Ngo performs world beat music at its best. A truly spiritual experience.
May 18: Garrick Davis Trio / Claudia Russel & Bruce Kaplan (Bobie Foster, Tony Stead); Pop blues. The traditional meets the contemporary. An evening of outstanding singing and musicianship.
May 25: Dakini (Mariah Parker, Mindia Devi, Matthew Montfort, Debopriyo Sarkar); Indo-jazz. An eclectic evening of music with influences from India, the Middle East and jazz. Instrumentation from flute and piano to gamelan and tabla.

June 1: Geist (Diana Stork, Teed Rockwell, Mika Scott) and Triskela Harp Trio; We welcome back this exciting trio. Musical journies with wit, brilliance and spirit.
June 8: Bluegrass Intentions (Bill Evans-banjo Suzy Thompson-violin, vocals, Alan Senauke-guitar, Eric Thompson-guitar, mandolin, Larry Cohea-bass); Unstoppable Old-Time Groove. Ebulliance balanced with virtuosity.
June 15: Ramon Romero / Carlitos Sermeno With special guest artist Carol Romero; We welcome back master harp virtuoso Ramon Romero from Paraguay. Music from all over Latin America full of fiery rhythms and lyrical feeling.
June 22: Player's Night (Jack Gates, Steve Baughman, Steve Edlen, Joey Lent); An evening of several styles of acoustic guitar music. Luthiers will be displaying their handmade acoustic guitars at this meeting of the Church of Acoustic Guitar.
June 29: Arauco (Rafael Manriquez-vocals, guitar, Jorge Tapia-percussion, Fernando Torres-charango, cuatro); A journey through contemporary original and traditional music and songs of Latin America.

July 13: Carol Denney & Friends / Anthony Smith; Two local performing songwriters present an evening of original songs full of wit and heart. Both of these entertainers are an important part of our musical community.
Sunday July 17 Noon to Dark: B-B-Q Jam Potluck; Members, musicians and their guests only please.
July 20: VOCO (Moira Smiley, Jessica Basta, Christine Enns, John Ballinger, Jessica Catron); VOCO sings the amazing spectrum of the voice with unrivaled integrity and playfulness. Post-folk,improvisation-built ditties, ballads, vocal symphonies and dancesongs. A truly exciting evening.
July 27: Caren Armstrong's Birthday Celebration; Come celebrate Caren's birthday. Music performed by Caren and her talented friends. Bring something vegetarian or chocolate to share.

Aug 17: Megan McLaughlin / Christie McCarthy & Patty Espeseth; Two of our favorite Bay Area performing songwriters with cellist Espeseth. An evening of humor, music and the joy of songwriting.
Aug 24: Strings Under Cover Night; One of the very best shows done at Strings. Songs the performers did not write and that have not received commercial air play. Artists who would like to participate please contact Joey ASAP.
Aug 31: Free Peoples (Tim Sawyer Johnny Downer Mike Dipirro Bradley Leach); We are happy to welcome back this group. A unique sound and musical style performed with imagination and heart. Bluegrass to blues and a whole lot more.

Sep 7: Hot Club of Berkeley (George Cole-guitar, Julian Smedley-violin, Vic Wong-violin, Chuck Ervin-bass); Hot gypsy jazz holding true to the tradional Django and Grapelli virtuosity with their own distinct mark.
Sep 14: Pickpocket Ensemble (Rick Corrigan-accordian, Tim Fox-guitar, Bob Todd-bass, Marquerite Ostrovski-violin, Ahaon Wheels Bolsta-percussion); Eastern European gypsy jazz and so much more. One of our favorite groups.
Sep 21: Lichi Fuentes (Donna Viscuso Hugo Weinzinger Jeremy Allen); An extraordinary evening of Latin song accompanied by highly accomplished musicians. We are very happy to welcome back this acclaimed and beloved Bay Area artist and her group.

Oct 5: La Pena Choir, Directed by Lichi Fuentes; We are thrilled to welcome back the La Pena Community Choir to Strings. Latin American music with wonderful harmonies and exciting accompaniment. A positive and inclusive experience for all.
Oct 12: Potaje Quartet (Chus Alonso-flute, cajon Mark Taylor-flamenco guitar Paula Dreyer-piano Brian Rice-percussion); Chus Alonso presents a program of original contemporary flamenco and Latin music dedicated to keeping the tradition alive and evolving.
Oct 19: New & Old Chamber Music (Molly Axtmann-piano Rem Djemilev-viola Ken Durling-clarinet); World premiere of Axtmann's "Return (to that which has been lost)", Mozart's "Kegelstatt Trio" plus a showing of the silent film comedy "Fatty & Mabel Adrift" accompanied by original live music.

Nov 2: Paul Kamm & Eleanore MacDonald; Exquisite harmonies & compelling songwriting weave a rich tapestry of guitar and storytelling. With sizzling hot fusion rhythms, they will be joined with other members of their band.
Nov 9: Tom Rigney Trio + One (Tom Rigney-violin Caroline Dahl-piano Joe Weed-violin & guitar Steve Parks-bass); Stellar cajun fiddler Rigney, boogie-woogie virtuoso Dahl and the ever creative fiddling Weed team for an evening of high energy and heart-felt music.

Opening: David Ross MacDonald from Australia; We are excited and delighted to have song master Steve Seskin back at Strings.

Nov 30: Doug Blumer & Friends; One of our favorite performing songwriters collaborates with friends for a fun evening.

Dec 7: Strings Holiday Concert & Party; One of our favorite evenings at Strings. Come celebrate the end of the season with us. A variety show of some of our local greats and the people who make Strings wonderful. These concerts are what Strings is all about. The concert will be until the breakfrom the break on will be Strings holiday party. We will be closing a week early this season as we have a lot of catching up to do: repairs, restoration, archival library work (organizing all the CDs from our concerts) and a host of other things. Please let Joey know if you would like to be part of this show. Hope to see all of you at the party.
